Rusty Kimball Makes Lives of Students, Professors Easier

Since joining the College of Geosciences in 2005 as the Geosciences Librarian, Rusty Kimball has been helping students make their research time in the university's libraries as productive as possible.

“Basically, when a student needs help with research or assignments, I can help them do it faster,” Kimball said. “I can really save people who come to me a lot of time because I know the ins and outs of the library system.”

Besides helping students with their Research, Kimball provides the College of Geosciences many other services. He’s eager to help make the lives of all those involved with the geosciences easier.

“I’m available to do class, group, and one on one instruction,” Kimball added, “and I have subject guides for three of the four departments of the college that can save students a lot of time. The guides work as kind of a starting point for students when they’re researching.”

Before coming to Texas A&M, Kimball worked as a Librarian for the University of Texas at Arlington

“I got my bachelors and masters degrees in geology from UTA,” Kimball said. “I worked at the UTA library while I got my masters, and while I was there I went through library school.”

After hearing about the opening from Texas Library Association website, Kimball chose to leave the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. College Station, and Texas A&M, have proven to be a good fit for Kimball.

“I really liked College Station from the beginning,” Kimball said. “I come from Arlington, which is a lot bigger, and I wanted to live in a place with a small town atmosphere. I really like the spirit here on campus, and the general striving for excellence by the students.”
