Executive Committee Meeting
Minutes of 30 May 2008

In attendance: Kjerfve, Grossman, Tchakerian, Bednarz, Mills, Smith (for Sherman), Herbert (for Kronenberg), Chapman, Bowman, Guinasso, Fox, Wormuth (for Stickney)

• New Associate Dean for Academics effective 1 August 2008

Kjerfve introduced Sarah Bednarz to the committee as the new Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, effective 1 August 2008 

• Summary of departmental hiring and searches

G&G – 3 sed/strat positions advertised, 1 position filled

Ocng – Kessler expected to arrive in August

Atmo – 2 positions advertised

Geog – Roark new hire and on schedule

• Ocng External Review

Reviewers pleased but made suggestions for improvements

• Radioactive Contamination

Grossman provided copy of data on the radiocarbon contamination on 4^th floor of O&M.

Clean up crew to be hired. CBE may provide funds for cleanup.

• SACS Update

Tchakerian told the department heads that they need to have their plans ready by fall semester. New staff member may be hired with experience in this area.

• Award Nominations

Tchakerian reminded the committee that the AFS College Level Award nominations are due to him week of June 2.

• Department and center performance metrics

Mills will send to committee electronically.

• Other

GFAC will report to Dean on Chairs and Professorships

Draft policy on Research Professors will go to GFAC and EC soon

Fox gave brief update on the ship situation in Singapore
