Executive Committee Meeting
Minutes of 11 April 2008

In attendance: Kjerfve, Grossman, Tchakerian, Kronenberg, Wormuth (for Stickney), Kennicutt, Chapman, Bowman, Sherman, Guinasso

  • Retreat with President Murano

Priorities articulated at the retreat were - enhancing faculty, undergraduate and graduate programs, diversity and globalization, and facilities, plus enlightened governance and sustainability and parity of resources. The meeting went well. There were discussions that the TAMU rankings have not been elevated since Reinvestment. Discussions ensued re rankings.

  • Personnel changes – plans for Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Recruitment Director.

The College has received applications for Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and interviews are under way. A new Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and a Director of Recruiting will be named within the next several weeks.

  • Faculty and staff evaluations.

Annual evaluations are due by May 31, 2008. Request was sent to EC members for information on their accomplishments and goals to be forwarded to the Dean no later than Friday, April 25, 2008.

  • Status of competition for endowed chairs and professorships.

GFAC will meet soon to discuss this issue and will advise the dean

  • Research Management – how should the college handle return of IDC?

New system will provide more money to colleges overall than the old system. There is some concern that grants will go to other institutions if PI’s are not encouraged to keep them at TAMU. OVPR is reviewing different ways to calculate returned IDC and charging for grant administration.

  • College of Geosciences child policy. – Did not discuss
