The College of Geosciences introduced a newly designed website for the Department of Geography under the domain name geography.tamu.edu this week after more than a month of preparation. It is the first departmental website in the College to incorporate the new Texas A&M logo and style specifications. The website is also the College’s first departmental website completely built in Joomla, a content management system gaining popularity among web developers.

“Joomla is nice because it helps us more easily organize large, complex websites,” College Web Developer Jennifer Rumford said. “It has a lot of features that make it easier for those with little knowledge of HTML to help with the everyday upkeep of websites.”

One new feature, currently being tested, will allow faculty members and graduate students to access an application that is integrated with Joomla to update and edit their own profile pages with publications, awards, research information, and more. This will ensure that these pages are always current.
