Chevron Sponsors Geology & Geophysics Field Trip to Utah PDF Print E-mail

Chevron has started a new program this year called the Chevron University Partnership Program, and the College of Geosciences at Texas A&M is one of the first to benefit from it. The company has donated $30,000 to fund a Geology & Geophysics field trip to the Book Cliffs in Utah for 20 undergraduate and graduate students from Geology & Geophysics, Oceanography and Petroleum Engineering. The trip is a unique opportunity to view world-class exposures, study geology in the field and earn class credit at no additional cost to students, other than tuition.

The field component of the course will last from May 10 to May 17 and will be led by Bryan Bracken, one of Chevron’s in-house geology instructors, in concert with faculty from the Department of Geology & Geophysics. Participating students will be required to meet weekly after Spring Break for a two-hour seminar to prepare for the field. The course will incorporate classroom lecture, outcrop examination, and outcrop and subsurface exercises to explore the fundamentals of sequence stratigraphy in shallow marine, deltaic and fluvial systems.
