Staff members from the IODP-USIO (Integrated Ocean Drilling Program-US Implementing Organization) were recognized for their outstanding work in the Houston Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication’s (STC) annual awards competition. They won awards in the categories of online communication, informational materials, art packaging design, and annual report design. The College of Geosciences, Texas A&M University, is the science operator for the U.S. portion of this international program. The Web site for the IODP-USIO Scientific Ocean Drilling Vessel the JOIDES Resolution won an award in the category of online communication. The site (http://iodp.tamu.edu/labs/ship.html) illustrates the living environment, scientific labs and analytical equipment available on the refurbished JOIDES Resolution. IODP Graphics Specialist Linda Orsi, Graphics Supervisor Debbie Partain and Web Administrator Katerina Petronotis were recognized for their work. The IODP-USIO Publication Services Department won three awards in the competition. In the category of informational materials, Publication Services won an award for a site chapter from the Proceedings of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Volume 307. The "Site U1318" PDF chapter utilizes IODP production supervisor Jaime Gracia's layout and design, and it reflects efforts by the Editing, Graphics, and Production sections. The department also won awards under technical publications: The Expedition 310 DVD Packaging in the category of art packaging design, and the IODP-USIO FY06 Annual Report in the category of annual report design. Primary design work on the DVD packaging was done by Production Specialist Kenneth Sherar and Graphics Specialist Jennie Lamb. The annual report design was by Production Specialists Mary Chapman, Patrick Edwards, and Kenneth Sherar. Awards from STC Houston’s publication, art, and online competition will be presented at a banquet February 22, 2008, at The Houston Club. |
