Outstanding Student Award

William Dennis Dugat IV, a geology major from Austin, has been named a 2007 recipient of the Brown Foundation-Earl Rudder Memorial Outstanding Student Award. He was presented with this prestigious award during the commencement ceremonies in May.

To be eligible for the Brown-Rudder award, a student must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, leadership, be a member of an honor or professional society and have participated in extracurricular activities, including community service, with dedication to Texas A&M and its principles. This honor is presented to the two most outstanding graduating seniors with these attributes.

As the deputy commander for the Corps of Cadets, Dugat proved himself as a leader. During his time at A&M, he also served three terms in the Texas A&M Student Senate as a representative of the College of Geosciences. He has been named to commandant's honor roll and was a member of The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band. He was also a member of the Ross Volunteer Company, which serves as the honor guard for the Governor of Texas. Dugat graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.766 grade point ratio on a 4.0 scale.

On receiving this award, Dugat says, "I was truly honored to be nominated by my professors, thrilled to represent our college, and surprised that I was selected. I was in good company among the other nominees for the Brown Rudder Award. I think that any of us could claim that we made the most of our time at Texas A&M, shared in the Aggie experience, and learned from 'the Other Education'."

Will Dugat will work as an intern geologist for BP this summer in Houston. In the fall, he will begin his graduate studies towards a MS Geology degree at Texas A&M University.
