Grossman Named Acting Associate Dean & Associate Dean for Research
Dr. Ethan Grossman
was recently named Acting Executive Associate Dean and Associate
Dean for Research for the College of Geosciences. He received his
B.S. in geology from the State University of New York at
Albany in 1976, graduating magna cum laude. Dr. Grossman received his
Ph.D. in geochemistry from the University of Southern California in
1982.

Dean Kjerfve welcomes new faculty to the College of Geosciences
College of Geosciences faculty and several members of the Dean's staff gathered Friday morning for a buffet-style breakfast and to welcome recently hired faculty. The third annual new faculty breakfast and presentation was attended by more than forty peoploe from all corners of the college.

Outstanding Student Award
William Dennis Dugat IV, a geology major from Austin, has been named a 2007 recipient of the Brown Foundation-Earl Rudder Memorial Outstanding Student Award. He was presented with this prestigious award during the commencement ceremonies in May.

CSBA Best in Business Staff Award
The Texas A&M University Council of Senior Business Administrators (CSBA) Best in Business Staff Awards were established to recognize and reward superior service by TAMU support staff members in business-related positions. Recipients are those who have made distinguished contributions to Texas A&M University and regularly exemplify outstanding service. Two awards are presented annually - one to a classified staff member and one to a non-classified staff member.

Richard Gibson, an associate professor in Texas
A&M's Department of Geology and Geophysics, is one of several Texas
A&M faculty members that have been honored by the Decision Analysis
Society of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management
Sciences (INFORMS).

Eric Schall Gathers Plankton in the Gulf of Mexico
Eric Schall, a graduate student in the Department of Oceanography and sophomore biology major Chris Ordeneaux boarded the Nancy Foster Research ship last October for ten days of research and learning.

Dr. Alejandro Orsi teaches students in Ecuador
As
they stepped off the plane and into the airport, Dr. Alejandro Orsi, an
Associate Professor in the Department of Oceanography, and Christina
Wiederwohl, a PhD graduate student in Oceanography were greeted and
escorted to the headquarters of INOCAR, the Oceanographic Institute of
the Ecuadorian Navy. Orsi and Wiederwohl would spend a week at the
institute teaching an intensive eight-lecture course on “Global Scale
Descriptive Oceanography, with a Regional Context”.
