Geosciences professor leads the way with rover cameras
Observers hailed this summer's Mars Exploration Rover Mission as a “geologist’s dream come true.” Dr. Mark Lemmon, an associate professor with the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, has been working with NASA and the University of Arizona on the mission.

College of Geosciences unveils new graduate degree program in Oceanography
The Texas A&M University College of Geosciences has collaborated on a new degree option through its Master of Geosciences program. Led by the Department of Oceanography and The Geochemical & Environmental Research Group (GERG), the degree option is the latest offering in its graduate degree repertoire – a graduate certificate in the discipline of Ocean Observing Systems will be offered starting next fall. This non-thesis masters program is geared towards training oceanographers who are knowledgeable in the development, design and implementation of various ocean systems.

Professor of Oceanography writes state-of-the-art textbook
A Texas A&M University College of Geosciences professor has researched and composed a textbook that is without precedent in the field of oceanography, and will be published by Oxford University Press this fall.

Dr. Gerald North wins AGU Outstanding Referee Citation
Dr. Gerald North, who is a Distinguished Professor and Holder of the Harold J. Haynes Endowed Chair in Geosciences in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, can add another distinction to his record – Dr. North was recently awarded the 2005 Editors' Citation for Excellence in Refereeing for Geophysical Research Letters. Dr. North was given this distinction by the Publications Committee of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) during the Editors' Evening on May 25, which was a part of the AGU Joint Assembly.

Dr. Yvon-Lewis adds to the Department of Oceanography
Dr. Shari Yvon-Lewis came to Texas A&M University a year and a half ago after leaving her post in the Atlantic Oceanographic and Marine Laboratory of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Miami, FL.

Bringing geosciences to the senate
Dr. Andrew Klein, an assistant professor in the Department of Geography and one of four faculty senators for the College of Geosciences, joined the Faculty Senate after Dr. Robert Bednarz, also a senator for the College, encouraged him to get involved. This fall, Dr. Klein will begin a 3-year term with the Faculty Senate.

ODP member's interest spans geosciences to creative writing
After working in the Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) for more than sixteen years, 2007 will be the year that Jennifer Pattison-Rumford, the Electronic Publications Specialist for ODP, will bid adieu to the College of Geosciences at Texas A&M when her publication releases its final volume.
